Happy Summer everyone! I love this time of year! Our family schedule is not as busy and we spend every moment we can playing outside or at the pool!

Things are buzzing at the studio! I am gearing up for lots of outdoor family sessions -including my own! It's been too long since the four of us have been photographed together!!

Next week, I head to Grafton Illinois for the PPA Illinois Workshops! I'll be a student of Master Photographer, Bry Cox! Upon returning, I'll also be preparing for my next portrait competition in July!

"Furever Home" Friday!

My Wrigley!

Three years ago, my daughter Sara and I headed to Southpark Mall to shop for clothes. Instead of clothes, we came home with Wrigley!

The Quad City Animal Welfare Center had a few animals at the mall who were looking for their "furever homes". When we walked by, Sara spotted Wrigley in the window and begged me to visit him. When she sat down on the floor, Wrigley crawled right into her lap. An hour later, he was ours.

Since then, I have had a constant companion! When I'm in my office, he is right there "sunning" himself under the lamp and attacking the cursor on the computer.

I call Wrigley my "alarm cat". Every morning, between 4:30 and 5:00, he wakes me up so I can start my day (and get him his breakfast).

What I love most about this kitty is his patience with the girls. They are constantly dragging him around the house. Instead of struggling to get away, he just relaxes into their arms and enjoys the attention.

The History
Six years ago, Cheryl Haggard and her husband had to make a decision that no parent should ever have to make; on his sixth day of life, remove her son from life support. As little Maddox passed away in his mother's loving arms, photographer Sandy Puc was there to capture and create those few and precious moments the Haggard family had with their son and brother.

Our Beginnings

Now, almost six years later, more than 7,000 photographers in the United States and 25 countries are providing professional portraiture to families whose infants will not come home from the hospital.

I stumbled across the website in the winter of 2006. After wiping the tears away, I knew that this was something that I was called to do.....my ministry. I submitted my application, was approved a few weeks later, and in May of 2006, walked into my first session at the hospital.

Many sessions later, I continue to work with the hospitals and families that request our services. NILMDTS has changed the way I live my life and parent my own children. On the days when I think the girls are going to "drive me crazy", I remind myself of the families who would give anything to have their three year old throwing a temper tantrum in the grocery store.

The Search
Three years ago, the International Charity Model Search was born! The purpose was two-fold. First to find North America's Cutest Kid and lavish the family with awesome prizes. Secondly, the goal was to raise money for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.

This is our biggest fundraiser of the year that allows us to continue funding our photographer training and retention program! Through photographer training and retention we are able to continue to provide grieving families with the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep gift, free of charge!

Round 1
Contestant portraits are uploaded to an on-line gallery. Friends and family then go to the gallery and vote for their Cutest Kid. Every vote is $1.00 (no limit) with all proceeds going to NILMDTS. The top 5 from each region (for a total of 50) will then move on to Round 2.

Round 2
Professional photographers in the industry will determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners!

The Prizes
1st-The Grand Prize winning child will win a travel package valued at $2500, a $2500 savings bond, and a $100 gift card to Target, Nikon Cool Pix point and shoot digital camera

2nd- $500 Savings Bond, and a $100 gift card to Target, Nikon Cool Pix point and shoot digital camera

3rd-$500 Savings Bond, and a $100 gift card to Target, Nikon Cool Pix point and shoot digital camera

First, Second, and Third Place winners will also be featured in Professional Photographer Magazine in a Summer 2011 issue.

1st Communion Portraits at Captured Moments Photography

This year, I've had the pleasure and honor to educate our second graders at St. Maria Goretti in Coal Valley Il. The year is full of beautiful sacraments; one being their first communion.

As we began to prepare for the sacrament, we discovered a slight conflict. In the past, I've always arrived at church to photograph the children individually before mass and then, with permission from Father Jim, capture each child receiving the sacrament.

This year, however, I"ll be "behind the scenes" getting them ready and serving as their Eucharist Minister. Oh, what to do....

Here's what I did!

For my 18 little souls, I've created special portrait packages for their families that include an invitation to the studio for their 1st Communion Portrait, a variety of poses and an heirloom box.

I'd like to extend the invitation to you, your families and friends who have little ones that are receiving their First Communion this Spring. What a wonderful way to celebrate this awesome milestone.

Happy New Year again! I am so excited about the fun exciting events and promotions that I have planned for the studio this year! I can't keep all the fun to myself; so I thought I'd share a few highlights!

Imaging USA

Saturday morning, I fly down to San Antonio for my first Imaging USA conference! Three fun filled days of learning and celebrating! Highlights include attending classes taught by Master photographers from all over the country, attending a celebration honoring my CPP certification, and even taking some time to volunteer at the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Booth!

New Promotions and Contests

I'll hit the ground running when I return next week. I'll have some of our favorite Limited Edition Sessions returning this year, as well as some new sessions! Look for the "All About Me" Sessions this Spring! Later this summer, the focus will turn toward your furry friends for the "Dog Days of Summer" limited edition sessions.

Also happening soon is the "Designing with Portraiture" contest! The winner will receive an in home portrait session and a huge wall portrait!

Speaking Opportunities

Does your MOPS group or organization need a speaker? I have designed a one hour presentation that focuses on how to photograph your children. I'll provide simple tips and techniques on how to capture all those special family moments. We will even throw in a fun little contest to get everyone involved in the fun!

and finally......

This August, with tears in my eyes, I'll be sending my youngest daughter off to kindergarten. It really is bittersweet as I love hanging out with the girls. However, with both girls in school, I'll finally be able to launch Captured Moments Photography full time. Look for amazing referral programs this year as I strive to reach another goal.

The grand prize winner will receive a $2500 savings bond, a $2500 travel package and a $100 Target gift card. The runners up will receive a $500 savings bond and a $100 Target gift card.

Model Search Special:
Entrance Fee of $25.00 includes a mini model session (15 minutes) and one image submitted to the international gallery. The entrance fee will be waived for the first 10 people who contact me!

How it works:
Finalists will be determined by online votes. Each vote is $1 (no limit on votes you can cast), and all proceeds benefit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. The Value of Family Portraits, Part 1

Before you go to bed this evening, walk through your home and count the number of portraits of your family that you have on display. Did you know that research has shown that by displaying family portraits throughout your home, you can increase your child's self image and his or her self confidence? These portraits provide a true sense of belonging for your child.

Child psychotherapist Stephanie Marston, author of "The Magic of Encouragement", recommends placing two photographs next to your child's bed. One should show him or her engaged in a favorite activity, the other should show family togetherness. These positive images are the last things they will see before they go to sleep and the first thing they see when the wake up in the morning.

Marston states that these photographs help to reinforce a child's sense of being both capable and loved. What a simple way to encourage and reinforce self esteem.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing more information with you on the importance of family portraits and the value of capturing those special moments. I'll also be sharing with you creative ways to display your portraits throughout your home.

Yesterday, I received a letter from the Professional Photographic Certification Commission. It's official!! I'm a Certified Professional Photographer!

MY FIRST CAREER
When I was a teacher, I truly believed that it was a necessity to stay abreast of the latest research and techniques in the field of education. My goal was to empower my students in a warm and enriching environment. It's an awesome responsibility knowing that you are touching the lives of children as they enter your classroom. Working towards a Master's Degree in Education was never something I had to question.....its what I did to provide the very best to my students.

MY SECOND CAREER
When I moved into my second career - photographer - those ideas and values never changed. Not only am I touching the lives of children, their parents, grandparents, etc., I'm capturing moments that can never be recreated again. I'm providing my clients with beautiful pieces of artwork that can be shared with future generations! Once again, an awesome responsibility!

Educating myself to provide the very best to my clients is a must. This is the main reason that I set out become a Certified Professional Photographer!

Since March, I've been studying to take a comprehensive exam that tests my technical and compositional expertise.

I met up with this awesome family last weekend! At one point during the session, we decided to step up to the challenge and photograph all of the children.....together. Keep in mind that these little ones have already sat through the large family and individual family portraits!! Here we go......

Safe T Kids Program
I've recently become affiliated with a national program called Safe T Kids. The Safe T Kids campaign is an ID program that provides peace of mind to parents. Safe T Kids records your children's images and information to have on hand in the event it is ever needed.

You'll get an ID card, and the information is also stored online. If an Amber Alert should ever have to be called, law enforcement officials would be able to get immediate access to your child's photo and information.

I understand that no parent wants to dwell on this, but if the unthinkable happens, it's best to be prepared.

During your child's birthday month, I'll give you a free birthday session and a Safe T Kids ID card. I am also available to set up a booth at community events such as MOPS groups, to introduce the program to our friends and neighbors.

This program will launch in July. During the month of July, I will have specific days set aside in which you can swing by the studio to create an ID card. Stay tuned for dates and times.

Becoming a Certified Professional Photographer

In order to continue to keep up with current trends in the photography industry and provide the very best for my clients, I'm undertaking a new adventure!!

On Monday, I will be joining approximately 3,000 photographers to begin the process of becoming a Certified Professional Photographer!

Here's what I'll be doing throughout the next year:

1. Declare my candidacy with the Professional Photographic Certification Commission. (done)

2. Pass a 100 question comprehensive written exam measuring my technical expertise! Lots of studying!! Right now, I'm tentatively planning on taking the test in San Antonio next January.

3. Successfully pass an Image Submission review of my work! I'll submit 20 images to be judged on lighting, posing etc.

I'm looking forward to this challenging process and will update you on my progress every once in a while!

Gymastics programs! Dance Recitals! Field Trips! Preschool Programs!.........Is your May looking like mine? I can't believe summer vacation is almost here! I try to keep our summers a little quiet around here, a class perhaps, but that's about it. We tend to focus our vacation time around trips to the park, and lazy afternoons at the pool!

However, even with the family home for the summer, I still have lots of things going on in the studio! And yes......I'm already thinking about Fall....... Here's what's headed your way over the next few months!

1. Capturing Your Kids Workshop! Join me on June 12th and I'll show you how to use your DSLR Camera! We'll also chat about composition, post production and presentation!

2. Summer Fun Quote Albums! These are available through August! We'll plan a portrait session of your child that focuses on Summer!!! Whether its bubbles, your little pool, or ice cream, I'll capture it all! I will also provide you a Summer Fun Questions! You will interview your child and we'll include his or responses and portraits in a 5x5 hardcover album!!

3. Christmas in July! Your chance to preorder albums and frames for the upcoming holiday season!!

4. Lollipop Portaits! Coming towards the end of the summer......a unique way to capture your child's personality!

A New Addition

For most of us, nine months can seem like an eternity when we are waiting for a new addition to the family. Try four and a half years! That's how long this beautiful family waited before their son and little brother joined the family.

This past winter, the family received the good news, "Its a boy!" and in March, they flew over to China to bring their little boy home!

I had the honor of capturing this family as they explored the Butterworth Center. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had a wonderful time!

Monday Afternoon News!

Happy Monday! Well, its been a crazy week since my computer crashed for the second time! My guys at Computer Revolutions took great care of me! We finally figured out what was wrong! However, I did spend the weekend reinstalling all of my programs!

With all of the troubles with the computer, family activities and work, I haven't been very successful with my photo of the day. For those of you who are doing this, how's it going?

I have been working hard to make sure that I hop into a photo with the girls every once in a while. I'm not crazy about having my picture taken, but I think its important for my family.

Upcoming events include the Capturing Your Kids Workshop. The first one is this Saturday from 9-12. I have one spot open if anyone is interested. Otherwise I"ll be repeating the workshop on June 12th. Give me a call to register and reserve your spot. 309.269.5013.

Happy Wednesday! Time to post my photo challenge pictures!!

Last week, I posted a photo of my dishwasher leaking all over the place! Well, this was my photo for the next day! New dishwasher should be here tomorrow!!!

My daughter was helping me set up the studio for a session when I caught this. Both girls, at ages 3 1/2 and 6 know how to work and read my light meter.

We did the studio Easter sessions last week. I always know when I'm nearing the end of a session with the girls - they start to get silly.

We have a member of our church parish who is from Columbia. On Sunday morning, she gave the girls these beautiful, handmade headbands.

On Monday, Margo and I headed to Chicago for the PPA Tour! We had a great time and came home with lots of information!!

At the seminar on Monday evening, I won a door prize from Hanson Fong. It's called a Skin Glow and it attaches to your speedlight. I was practicing with it when Anna struck this beautiful pose......

25 Years of Love.....

Stories. That's what I love about my job - the stories my clients share with me. From the anticipation of a new baby to the excitement of choosing a college, I love listening to memories and milestones.

Kathleen and Rick's story is 25+ years in the making! After finding my name on the back of a birth announcement, Kathleen called me wanting to capture her 25th wedding anniversary. As I listened to her talk that afternoon about why and where she wanted to capture this milestone, her energy and excitement was contagious! I couldn't wait to meet the two of them!!

On a beautiful October morning, we met on John Deere Commons and talked and giggled our way through their session. The highlight of the morning was a visit to Dead Poet's Espresso. This little coffee shop (downtown Moline) is a place these two frequent on a regular basis. The owners were wonderful and allowed me to photograph Kathleen and Rick.

Since then, Kathleen and Rick have invited me into their lives numerous times. I've photographed her grandsons, her daughter and husband, and a wedding.

Kathleen, thank you so much for inviting me into your life. And yes, we do need to meet for coffee soon.

Fraiday Family Focus!

It's Friday! This week I'd like to introduce you to Wendy and her beautiful family! Wendy is a newer client and our first session together was last Fall. We immediately bonded and as you will see, she has one of the most generous hearts I've ever seen.

Wendy and I became acquainted through one of my Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep families. I"d say that she is one of my biggest supporters of the Foundation. As my only participant in the International Charity Model search, she has gone above and beyond what she needed to do! After their family photo session, Wendy shared the link with her family and friends so they could vote to put the family in the finals, and raise money for NILMDTS.

She also composed a beautiful and touching letter that she sent to her family and friends explaining how NILMDTS has touched the lives of her family and friends. I still cry every time I read the letter.

Last week, I didn't blog about my photos of the day. Instead, I was introducing the Capturing your Kids Contest. Although I continue to take a photo every day, I thought I'd only share a few of my favorites this morning. These photos were taken between Feb. 25th and March 7th.

Round 1 of the Capturing Your Kids Contest starts today! Here's your "to do" list this week!
1. Email me a favorite photo that you have taken of your children by March 15th!
2. Head over to my Fan Page on Facebook to make sure you are a Fan!
3. Invite your friends and family to become Fans! (Remember, when voting begins, only fan votes will be counted)
4. Finalize your registration for the workshop. Workshops will be held on April 24th, or June 12th. Sign up for the date that fits best in your schedule!
5. Watch for details on voting which will begin on March 16th!

OTHER NOTES:
Voting will continue March 16th - March 30th. The winner will be announced on April 1st and will receive a complimentary portrait session and 10 of your favorite portraits on a CD. Yep! A CD! Now that you've picked yourself up from the floor (yes, it really is a CD), grab your camera and your kids and have some fun!

Friday Family Focus - The Adventure

I never know what adventure Bekah is going to take me on when she calls. It's rarely just your typical family portrait! However, I've had the pleasure of peeking into some of the biggest moments of her life.

I met Bekah shortly after I started my business almost 5 1/2 years ago. I was at a scrapbooking event and she hunted me down (thanks to Heather from last week's family focus)!

Since that fateful day, I've watched her son grow up. "M" is awesome and so patient with his Mom's portrait requests! "M" has been the oldest child that I've photographed hands, feet, smiles, etc. He was 11 at the time!

Shortly after meeting her beautiful daughter, Bekah called and said, "Hey guess what? I'm getting married!"

Even then, there were some photos she wanted on her wedding day that aren't usually requested! That morning, I headed over the to Spa where she and her Mom had massages, pedicures and manicures! You should have seen the look on the receptionist when I walked in and said I was there to photograph my bride getting a massage!!

Bekah, thank you so much for inviting me into your life. I look forward to your next phone call!

Capturing Your Kids Photo Contest

Here are the contest details! Any questions? Please do not hesitate to contact me! By the way, I know some of you whose children are your furry friends. Don't worry, we'll do something special just for them as we get closer to the Pet Days Fundraiser (May 13th - 15th) for the Quad City Greyhound Adoption Center!

Submitting your Photos
1. Have a little photo session with your little ones (or use one of your favorites)
2. Email the photo to me at lisa@momentsbylisa.com
3. Images must be of children under age 18
4. If you have more than one child in your family, they may all be in the picture
5. Portraits taken by professionals may not be submitted
6. Submit photos between March 8th and March 15th

While you are waiting for the voting to begin, join my Fan Page

March 16th - 31st
1. All photos submitted will be uploaded to the Capturing Kids Album on my Fan Page
2. Send friends and family to the page to become fans and vote
3. Voting will begin March 16th and end March 31st

The Vote

2. Go to the Capturing Kids Album and find the picture you would like to vote for.
3. Leave a comment under that picture and include the word "vote" somewhere in your comment.
4. You may only vote once.
5. Votes are counted as comments on each photo entry (not the album)

The winner will be announced on April 1st based on the total number of votes for each image!

Friday Family Focus - This family started it all!

I found Heather on-line. Really! I did! I was in desperate need of scrapbooking supplies!! So I headed to the Creative Memories website and did a search - and a wonderful friendship began! About the time Heather's oldest was 8 or 9 months, I was getting ready to launch my business. Her daughter was one of my very first clients - baby parts! Little Miss "A's" first session was captured with black and white film and the prints were lovingly processed in my darkroom.

Heather is also credited for referring me to her friends those first few months! Yep, she's awesome!

Since that very first session, we've celebrated so much together including: playdates (our daughters are the same age), dance, gymnastics, scrapbooking, the birth of my second child, I went digital, the birth of her second child, hunting for preschools, and starting kindergarten (our kids, not us)!

I love working with Heather and her family. Our sessions are always filled with laughter and excitement! So sit back and enjoy just a few of the many portraits that I've made of this wonderful family!

A year in Photos Feb 17th - Feb. 23rd

I know that we are finishing up month two of photo of the day; but I"m already trying to decide what I'm going to do with all of these! I know I"m going to do an album; its just deciding whether I do it quarterly or just one big book at the end of the year!

Feb. 17th. Piano recital

Feb. 18th. I love this picture. Anna and Dan are drawing people. Dan has been explaining to Anna that arms don't usually grow out of people's heads.

Feb. 19th. My original idea for today's photo was to capture Boughchieux in his "throwtheball!Throwtheball!" stance! I did capture a couple of those; but when I downloaded everything, I fell in love with this one.

Feb. 20th. I spent the afternoon with the girls outside. We built a snowman and went sledding!
Feb. 21st. Sunday was the perfect day to simmer up a batch of homemade spaghetti sauce!

Feb. 22nd. I headed over to Prospect Park in Moline with the intention of capturing the pond. There was still too much snow so you couldn't even tell it was the pond! This was all I did as I had a hungry three year old with me!

Feb. 23rd. Her hair was supposed to be spiky; but it kept falling over! I also tried out a new coffee action from the Photography School House!

Friday Family Focus! They won me!!

I met this family a couple of years ago after they won me in a charity auction. I've enjoyed getting to know Jodi and her family through the many sessions we've had . I love our preview appointments since they always end with girl talk about raising daughters, home offices and husbands! Thank you so much for welcoming me into your family and I look forward to our upcoming sessions!

I love to photograph Miss "S". During her birthday session, the newest addition to the family joined her!

I captured this during our very first session together. Although I love all the portraits I've taken of Miss "E", this is one of my favorites!

This was the first birthday session I did for the family. We pulled out all the stuffed animals that I had in the studio. The elephant was Miss "O's" favorite.

Feb. 11th. Snapshot!!
Sara was invited to a birthday party this week at Monkey Joe's!

Feb. 12th. I took advantage of the sun today.
If you look close, you can see the tree in the drop just as it gets ready to fall.

Feb. 13th. At the car wash rinsing the salt off the car!
My intention was to photograph the water as it blasted
across the windows; but this caught my eye instead.
The challenge: getting the window back up before the rinse came through!

Good Morning! I hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day yesterday and will be enjoying the holiday today! If you are just hanging out today, contact me to set up your child's Spring Portraits. 1st Communion
Last year, I offered complimentary studio sessions to the members of my church who were receiving their 1st Communion. This year I would like to extend this offer to everyone. I've been our church's 1st Communion photographer for quite a few years and although I love the individual portraits that I've captured that morning, I would have loved to have a little more time with each child. This is such an important milestone and truly deserves a portrait session that is customized for your child. Next Monday, I'll post a few studio portraits and package details.

and finally.........Since Christmas, I've had four people approach me with excitement about their new camera! Their next statement was, "Now I just wish I knew how to use it!"

This Spring, I will be offering a 4 hour course which will focus on photographing your family! The first week, we will cover camera basics and composition. I'll also have a little model available for you to practice some of the techniques! Then you'll go back to your families and try some of the techniques I've given you. When we meet again, you'll bring examples of what you've done for us to see! At our second session, we'll visit my studio and everyone will receive a complimentary portrait for their Facebook, Myspace, etc. Each person will also go home with a goody bag!

Friday Family Focus - Jimmy + Lindsay

To honor Valentine's Day, this week's focus is on a couple of my favorite sweethearts!

On a cold, rainy afternoon in Starbucks, Jimmy, Lindsay and I huddled over coffee and planned their wedding. I loved getting to know them and knew that we were going to have a blast! Just a few months later, on the hottest day of the summer, we were shooting their engagement portraits!

When we finished their session, we headed to the fountain at Vandeveere!

The wedding date was set for Halloween! All around the country, little girls were dressing up as princesses and brides and perhaps dreaming of their weddings. Today, Lindsay was a true princess. (aren't I mushy this morning?)

"You betcha! I sure do!"

Friday Family Focus

I met Michelle when she was pregnant with her son at a Ministry of Mom's Study Group. Three years later, not only does this beautiful friendship continue to grow; but I've captured many of this family's special moments.

Michelle never turns down a " Hey! Can I try this?" This has resulted in some of my favorite portraits. Thank you for letting me play!

Little S. was just a few months old when I took the first family portrait. We
had so much fun that afternoon (despite the mosquitos!)

One of my favorite places to visit is the Butterworth Center in Moline.
The grounds are just breathtaking - as are the little ones that I captured that day.

Snow and cold weather doesn't stop this group from playing!
A couple of weeks ago, I met the family for a snowball fight!

Friday Family Focus

Katie and Randy invited me into their lives almost three years ago. Katie was referred to me through Baby Matters. A magazine was writing a story about her and her best friend from high school and needed a local photographer to provide some photos. What an incredible story it was. Through a true act of friendship, Katie was a surrogate for her friend. On that day, Katie had given birth to a little girl and I was honored to be a very small part of the event.

Since then, I have photographed Katie and her family more than 10 ten times since our first meeting. I've documented birthdays, the birth of her youngest son and even a huge family gathering.

Our first family took place at the park on a beautiful fall morning.

We made this portrait just before little "I" was born.

Katie called me from the hospital to schedule little "I"s newborn session!

Last September, I was off on another adventure with Katie! This time, it was a magazine called "Conceive" who was doing the story of Katie and Amanda's experience. So, over Labor Day weekend, my family and I traveled to Cincinatti OH. We spent one day at the waterpark. The next morning, we headed over to Amanda's home for the photo session and then it was back home to Moline! What a whirlwind weekend! But we had so much fun and I loved seeing Amanda and little "T"

Little "J" is Sara's age. So of course whenever we are together, we talk parenting, school, etc.

Here's our latest session. I can't believe he's already 18 months old!!!

A year in Photos - Jan. 14th - 25th

Last Fall, I attended David Ziser's photography seminar in Chicago. It was awesome! One of the things David said was to always ask yourself this question when you were shooting, "What would happen if......." and you fill in the blank whether its something that refers to lighting, posing, etc.

This question is in my mind daily as I not only work with clients; but also my photo of the day. As you will see, the answer to some of these questions, are not to do it again.

Jan. 14th - Peek Week at Anna's dance class.

Jan 15th - This is what's left following a cake smash portrait!

January 16th - Snowball fight!!!

Jan 17th - Dan hauled the smoker out and smoked some pork ribs. Yum!!

Jan. 18th - Sara practicing the piano. My speedlight is sitting on the piano.

Jan. 19th - Almost forgot! I walked into the bathroom while Anna was brushing her teeth and told her to say "cheese". Photo of the day, done.

Jan. 20th. It was very icy outside so we didn't venture too far out.
Sara held my speedlight for me while I shot.

Jan. 21st - I asked myself, "What would happen if I set my speedlight by my side"? As you can see,
the question was answered. I moved on.

Jan. 22nd - This little sweetie stopped by the studio today. She had a wonderful time playing with the flower petals. I used the Totally Rad B&W action and then brought the opacity down for this unique color.

Jan. 23rd - I have new hats and headbands!! This hat just happened to be
attached to a baby when I made the portrait!

Jan. 24th - Sara has really enjoyed the "photo of the day" challenge. She asks me everyday what I have
done. On Sunday, she came running upstairs and asked me if her "silly looking snowman"
could be my photo of the day. Of course I said yes!

Jan. 25th. A little backlighting for you. My speedlight is behind Sara, my reflector is in front!

Something new for 2010! Friday Family Focus! A couple times a month, I will highlight one of the families, children, and high school seniors that have put their trust in me to capture their special moments! Here we go!!!!

I met Rachel 2 1/2 years ago when Sara started attending preschool at the Bettendorf Family Museum. When she became pregnant with her second child, I was thrilled when Rachel asked me to be her photographer.

Our portrait sessions are like a playdate for big persons! We laugh, giggle, talk parenting, and most important, capture the interactions between the family and document little C's First Year.

This portrait was taken at C's newborn session. Before we started,
I did a quick test of my lights and caught this awesome moment.

At C's 3 month session, we were trying to capture a little "tummy time".
She had other other ideas and made it her goal to slide down the
beanbag poser every time we propped her up!
Although we have a cute one of her propped up, this is our favorite!

There is constant laughter and smiles throughout our sessions!

Don't you just love those big eyes! This is one of my favorite maternity portraits.

Jan. 9th - yummmmmm........ chocolate!

Jan. 10th - My cat making a request to STOP TAKING MY PICTURE!!!

Jan. 11th - I was in Walgreens a couple of weeks ago and picked up this little fish bowl. Unfortunately, the fish didn't swim like they should; but it makes for some interesting captures. There is a LED light at the bottom of the bowl. The fish is being lit by the flashlight Dan was holding.

I was challenged to take a photo every day during 2010. I accepted this challenge and just wanted to share with you what I've been up to this week.

Jan 1st. I took this at 9:30 p.m. about 10 minutes after I accepted the challenge. I grabbed by camera and threw the speedlight on top! I bounced the light off the white laundry basket that happened to be in the living room. Our dog, Boughchieux, is guarding the popcorn.

Jan 2nd. The girls received nail kits from Santa. While they were doing their nails, I grabbed the camera and focused on the clear nail polish. I'd like to continue to work with this little bottle since now I'd like to add a little more light to it - make it "shiny".

Jan. 3rd. This is the Snowman Dan and the girls built. If I would have thought things through, I would have photographed them building it and then documented the melting. Still lots of time to do that this winter. I used a little fill flash and played with the B&W action from Totally Rad Actions.

Jan 4th. I shot the ice a couple of times today. Even crawled up on a ladder - I was still too short and didn't get the shot I wanted. This photo is from the second attempt. I was out about 6:30 p.m. The light source is the light above our garage door.

Jan. 5th. Right before the tree came down, I finally managed to finish Sara's Christmas portraits. When we were done, she crawled under the tree and announced she was a Christmas Present.

Jan. 7th. Our feeder was full when I woke up this morning. By late morning, the birdies were having a true feast. I shot this through our living room window.

LET IT SNOW!!
Looks like we are going to get 6" of snow today!! My girls are thrilled! For those of you brave enough to weather the elements, this is a perfect time for an outdoor family snow portrait!

This is more than a fun contest! In keeping with the holidays and giving to those less fortunate, it also raises funds for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS). NILMDTS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to assisting bereaved families who experience an early infant loss, connecting families with photographers who provide the gift of infant remembrance photography at no cost! Thanksgiving is a lovely holiday! It's marvelous to have a day set apart to be grateful for all we enjoy. My good fortune overwhelms me with gratitude, and I want all of you to know that you are included in my list of blessings. Your friendship and patronage has warmed my heart. Thank you for letting me part of your life. I look forward to serving you in the coming year.
